Choosing VR locomotion hardware

Why walk in VR? Moving with a joystick while your body stands still is the main cause of VR motion sickness. Omnidirectional treadmills and foot trackers let you walk, run and crouch for real while staying in one spot, so your body and eyes agree and sessions double as exercise.

Treadmill or sensors? Treadmills (with a harness or support arm) give the most natural, safe walking and fit a space of roughly 1–1.5 m across; foot-tracking sensors are cheaper and portable but you walk on the spot. Check which headsets and platforms are supported (SteamVR, Meta Quest with an adapter, or the maker's own store).

Fit and consumables. Treadmills need the right shoes or overshoes, a vest that fits your waist and periodic cleaning and replacement parts; check the user height and weight limits before buying.

Setup and use

1. Follow the Omni One guide.
2. Test before play.
3. Check that everything is fitted securely and works as expected before your next session.

Care and maintenance

Clean the platform with the maker's cleaning products, keep the surface free of dust and grit, charge trackers regularly, and inspect the harness, straps and arm before each session.

Motorised VR walking shoes Pro (business): overview

These VR treadmill shoes Pro are Freeaim's business edition, built for commercial and out-of-home VR installations that need natural walking plus operational support.

The kit includes one pair of shoes, a 360° support frame for balance, batteries and charger, a carrying case, fit accessories, user guides and software, plus an SDK for sensor data, shoe control and haptics.

It is a Beta/DevKit model with CE certification in progress (pre-certified FCC radio modules); buyers may be asked to agree to a Beta evaluation agreement. Made to order: about 4–5 weeks lead time before shipping.

Who the motorised vr walking shoes pro (business) is for

Arcades, training centres and research labs that need natural walking.

• VR arcades and LBE venues
• Research labs
• Training simulators
• Developers
• Theme parks

Priority support

Business.

Fast onboarding

Most users walk in about 5 minutes.

Custom options

Heavy-duty warranty.

Compatibility

For commercial VR installations; settings via the Freeaim app and SteamVR menu.

Choosing VR locomotion hardware

Why locomotion hardware? Most VR games move you with a joystick, which can cause motion sickness; locomotion devices let you actually walk while staying in place, so your body and eyes agree.

Types. Omnidirectional treadmills use a slippery or moving surface in a frame; motorised shoes move your feet back under you as you walk, in a much smaller footprint.

Who it suits. Users should be reasonably fit with good balance. Commercial venues benefit from support frames, SDK access and priority support.

Setup and use

1. Review and sign the Beta evaluation agreement if requested.
2. Assemble the support frame.
3. Charge batteries and pair.
4. Onboard users with the frame first.

Care and maintenance

Charge fully before first use, wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth, keep it away from water and heat, and store it flat or hung on its mount. Update firmware through the maker's app.

Motorised VR walking shoes (consumer): overview

These VR shoes (Freeaim, consumer edition) are a motorised, omnidirectional locomotion platform: you walk, strafe and turn naturally in VR without a large treadmill.

Two motors per shoe drive an omnidirectional platform under each foot, with quick-swap batteries, a customisable fit, wireless connection and positional correction to keep you centred. These core specs come from Freeaim's general product-line description rather than a dedicated sheet for this edition.

This consumer edition is crowdfunded: order and delivery timelines follow Freeaim's campaign schedule, so we confirm the current lead time before purchase.

Features in detail

Motorised platform

Walk in any direction.

Compact

No treadmill frame.

Quick-swap batteries

Continuous use.

Positional correction

Compatibility

Works with PC VR and standalone VR setups; check the maker's supported titles.

1. Confirm lead time with us before ordering.
2. Charge the batteries.
3. Adjust the fit and pair wirelessly.
4. Start with short, slow sessions.

Care and maintenance

Charge fully before first use, wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth, keep it away from water and heat, and store it flat or hung on its mount. Update firmware through the maker's app.
